What is the Laker Educational Foundation?

The general intent of an educational foundation is to provide funding for activities that are beyond the scope of traditionally supported school activities. A community based group solicits donations, manages those funds and disburses them through a granting process. The non-profit foundation is a separate entity from the school district it serves.

A steering committee was formed in 2004 to explore the idea of an educational foundation, independent of the 719 school district. The foundation began in 2005 with the name of Prior Lake-Savage Area Educational Foundation. In 2011 it was changed to the Laker Educational Foundation to reflect the community it serves.

Today, the foundation has grown and has prospered under various leadership, offering in excess of $310,000 to students, teaching staff and community members.
